Today In History

May is Law Enforcement Appreciation Month

  • In 1921 - Shuffle Along, first of a succession of popular musicals featuring Black talent, opened at the 63rd Street Music Hall, New York City.
  • In 1900 - Civil War hero Sgt William Carney becomes 1st African American to receive Medal of Honor

To Inspire You

A child born to a Black mother in a state like Mississippi...has exactly the same rights as a white baby born to the wealthiest person in the United States. It's not true, but I challenge anyone to say it is not a goal worth working for.
